Hi there NightWolve! I absolutely thank you for your fantastic work on the Ys PC games! What a stellar idea - and what a great job... apparently; I wouldn't know myself yet, as I am having trouble getting the english patch to work on my PC (ooooooooh the frustration!) Hence, I am writing to you in hopes that you might help me to remedy the problem.
Heres what I have done:
1) I switched the language business over to Japanese as outlined
2) I made sure I had the proper files in the Falcom folder ("ysc0203" - i have a Radeon card - & "ys2OP_1")
3)Installed my Ys 1 complete (which I can access and play fine in Japanese...)
4) ran the ys 1 v.1.26 english patch - said it installed successfully...
5) Now, when I try to play the game I get the message:
"the data file wasnt found or the capacity of external memory is insufficient."

I am totally confused as to what to do or try now. If you could point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it very much.

Thank you.
Sincerely,
Jesst

General / Re: Wii wouldnt like to play at the arcade?
« on: Feb. 12, 2008, 06:39:50 PM »
Yeah, we didn't have an arcade in my small town growing up, but we had some games at the local bowling alley. Namely the ever awesome Street Fighter 2! I remember my friend and I were determined to beat it for the first time and we had a $10 roll of quarters to accomplish this task. It was kinda funny because he wasn't anywhere near as good at it as I was. We'd switch off rounds playing a Ryu, I'd win the first, he'd lose the second, and I'd win the third. This happened throughout the game till Bison. He somehow pulled out a win and finished it for the first time. Cost us like $6.

He then went on to play something else and I decided to play again. Finished it in a quarter this time. Anyways, I kinda lost interest in the arcades when they became workout centers. I remember one of the Penny Arcade's made this point, but it seems like you have to be a member of the gym to play arcade game's anymore.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going down to liability w/ glass if they offer that, cause my windshield has a tendency to get messed up. I don't have glass right now, but I'll definitely be picking it up soon.

Well, I guess I'll be making my first post in a loooooong time in this topic.

While this movie really did make me laugh, I didn't enjoy it anywhere near as much as the first two. Some things were done well, but I just don't always enjoy the three minute introduction of the villains. I'm sorry but some things just need to be fleshed out more. There was also way too much emo-whining going on in the movie too. It's annoying how Spiderman was in his black costume (though his confrontation with Harry was pretty awesome!)

I don't wanna spoil anymore of the movie, but it was far too much of a let-down for as great as this series has been.

General / Re: How and when did you discover Ys? and...
« on: Apr. 01, 2006, 12:39:19 PM »
Well what happened was besides being a tough version of Ys, I managed to exploit a bug accidently in the Tower of the Doomed [Dharm Tower], and never started a new game till I dusted off the Sega in 1998 and beat it :O [Didn't play Ys 2 till NightWolve released the translated Ys 2 Complete though :O mmmmmmmmmmmmmm]

The bug was uh...in the Devil's Song tunnel room .......  How was I supposed to get past this terrible area??? Well....  being the creative genius I am and not knowing what to do I  used.... *gasp* ................ a Potion to survive the run to the other side :o ......................................................................................

Thus began my 10 year imprisonment in the Tower.  [lol had to beat that area the right way otherwise, the events wouldn't kick in and the last area was simply *Sealed by a Evil Force* .................................................. (and going back into the tunnel potion-less was suicide so...)

It's kinda funny, because that's pretty much how I finished Ys the first time as well. I had no idea you could break that pillar to get the music to stop, so after dying a few times, I just used a potion to get to the other side. I don't really remember having to beat the area the right way though. I don't think I figured that out till the TG version.

Yeah, the SMS version was my first foray into the world of Ys, and I loved it quite a lot. I thought that it was one of the greatest games ever made. When I first played the updated TG version of it, I played straight trough till I finished it. Easily my favorite games of all time.

Ya know, I think that I remember there being some new characters who visit you in the "world of dreams" or something like that. You can always go to MJMMX's site. I think there's a link around here somewhere. He has all the stuff listed that's secret in Ys I&II both complete and Eternal I believe.

I guess I should also thank him for the site itself. It really helps me to realize the full potential of these already amazing games. Thanks MJMMX and anyone who helped out with the site there.

It's kinda funny how I never really thought about the problems that font and actual support for English might come up during the translation. Not being very computer savvy, I always just think that you dump the script and then plug in the replacement stuff without having to worry about "support."

I don't know, I really do respect the kind of time and effort that people put forth into this, especially given all my ignorance of how this is all done. I suppose that I should be helping out in the form of monetary donations. So, you can be expecting some from me fairly soon, probably once I get my taxes back.

Also, I was wondering if you'd be doing both chapters of ED6 or just the SC? I want to know if I should pick them both up or just read the script for the first and start up with the second.

Ys VI: The Ark of Napishtim / Re: Translation?
« on: Mar. 10, 2006, 02:35:01 AM »
I was kinda wondering how you got a new windshield for that little. Do it yourself. I just can't ever bring myself to do anything auto related myself. I'm not very inclined when it comes to that stuff and I do respect people who are. More power to them.

My gf ended up paying some ridiculous amount because her mom wanted her to get her windshield changed. Insurance doesn't really help because the deductible isn't a whole lot less than the actual cost of it anyways.

Ys I & II Complete / I'm feein' kinda dumb...
« on: Feb. 05, 2006, 03:42:17 AM »
I'm not used to doing things on my computer other than install, uninstall, and run. I guess what I'm getting at is, how do I zip them?

Also, can I do this without uninstalling the version that I have now with the patch attached to it. I could always just install it onto my gf's computer, but then I'd have to download winzip (I probably should anyways). Any help would be great, thanks.

Ys I & II Complete / RE: I'm having a problem with the Ys II patch...

Hey Nightwolve! Thanks again for the patches, they're definitely a highlight of my year (perhaps even life ;))

I know what you mean about RPGFan being so angsty. It gets a little annoying with all the wining. The way they treat new members can also be a drag. I think that even some of the old editors and such left because of the way the MB members behave.

Anyways, I'll attach the version that I use probably tomorr...er...later on today. I look forward to posting here. Who knows, I might even leave my account at RPGFan. I feel more like a lurker there anyways.

P.S. Heh, forgot to answer your initial question. Yeah, this is the latest version from Falcom. I just ordered it about two weeks ago and it arrived in about five days. It's in a smaller box, or so I'm told, and each game comes on its own DVD.

By the way, when I finished Ys I and it went to launching Ys II after the credits, it never loaded it. I don't know why, but just thought I'd let ya know.

Glad to hear that worked. Basically what was done is the tricked the version check by replacing the origional 1.2.4.0 with the 1.1.2.0 version. From there the patch had no problem patching the 1.1.2.0 version. Essentially this is a problem that will need to be fixed. Is this the new version that falcom just released in the smaller box?

Yeah, I just received it about a week ago and was all too ready to play. I don't think you could imagine my disappointment when I got those words that said I wouldn't get it in English. I wasn't sure if this was a newer version or what, but I'm glad you knew what was going on.

hopefully night will catch up with this in the next few days. in the mean time you can download ysc0107.zip from falcoms website and manually put the ys2_win.exe into the falcom\ys12_CMP\ys2_win folder and delete the other ys2_win.exe. also make sure the ysc0107.zip is located in the falcom\ys12_CMP folder. next trun nights patch program. This may resolve your issue for now if these are not the correct folder names please post the names of the folders so i can help you further...

That worked perfectly. Thanks a lot. And I mean A LOT!!!

This is gonna be awesome.

Ya know. I'd also like to take this time to thank NightWolve as well. I remember when you used to post on the RPGFan boards. I started a thread looking for a translation for Ys IV, and you said that you were trying to get one done. It was some time ago now, but I remember it well. I'm glad to know that you stuck with it and got through not just that but several others as well. You might not think that you're appreciated enough, but believe me, we all appreciate it.

Thanks NightWolve. I look forward with not just a little hope to your future endeavors.

Ys I & II Complete / I'm having a problem with the Ys II patch...
« on: Jan. 30, 2006, 05:45:52 PM »
I was wondering what exact version of Ys II the patch was designed for. Whenever I try to apply it to my Ys II Complete, I get a message that says "Version 1.2.4.0 is unknown... THis patch cannot help you"

I know the box I received, the disc and all the files say Ys II Complete; however the desktop icon says Ys II Eternal. I assumed that maybe that was just what it said, but was still Complete. I hope they didn't just stamp all that Complete stuff onto some old Eternal discs.

Anyways, any help would be appreciated.

Heh, got the sale and I didn't even know it. Wouldn't have mattered, I would've paid a lot for this game. I've been wanting to play an updated version for so long it's ridiculous. I can die happy now...er...after I finish Ys II anyways.

Ys I & II Complete / RE: How to order these two games from Falcom !

I live in the US and recently bought both Ys I & II Complete and Ys: The Oath in Felghana, and I paid about $120 altogether. I don't know if this helps, but that's just me.

As far as I remember, the ending in YsF isn't very interesting. But then again -- does ANY Ys game have an interesting ending? No.

You know, I enjoyed the credits at the end of Ys II (TG16 version, haven't finished the PC version yet). It was far better than the endings to most of the games that were out at the time.
