Viewable Screen on Y's I and II
« on: Mar. 24, 2006, 03:02:13 PM »
Hi...

Great job on the translation.  I have both games and I have installed both patches on an old Pentium III 700Mhz PC and it runs great.  In full screen...

Now the problem...

I just recently installed it on my new PC...Pentium 4  2.8GHz; however, the game will only use up the center half of the the screen.  Is there any way to get the games to RUN in FULL screen.  Thank you for your help in advanced...

By default, they only support full screen mode. I dunno what other software you got running that could be causing this if at all. What's your desktop's resolution? Do you have a really powerful graphics card or something? Maybe try setting your desktop resolution to the minimum that you can like at 800x600, then try running the game. The game requests an 8-bit, 256 colored 640x480 resolution mode, full screen, through DirectX; it cannot do anything else. My only other guess is you've got such a high resolution with your card that's causing this. Obviously, if know how to set your default desktop resolution to even 640x480, that would have to work.

You break my record, now I break you, like I break your friend!

Um, by any chance, are you running on a widescreen laptop ?
This is a 4:3 aspect ratio game, and your video card settings may not be set for display adapter scaling.

I run on a widescreen laptop with NVidia graphics, and here's where I can update that setting:
Display Properties (rightclick on the windows background, choose Properties)
-> Settings
-> Advanced
-> GeForce xxx settings tab
-> Digital Flat Panel settings

This gives me the following choices:
- Display adapter scaling (stretches it wider - this is what I use)
- Centered output
- Fixed aspect ratio scaling

You may likely be using one of those latter two...

As far as I know I'm not running a powerful graphics card.  Just the standard video card that came with my computer.

I did try to adjust the settings to a 800X600 (that is as low as my resolution will let me go) resolution but that didn't fix the problem (since those are the maximum settings for my old computer).

My current settings are at 1024X758...32-bit color.  The video card is a SiS 651.
By the way my computer is a Sony VAIO PCV-V300G (it's an all in one pc).

I 'll to mess with the settings some more.

 :(

Well...I messed with all the settings and nothing worked.  I have changed the resolution to 640X480 and what happens is that my screen only shows 640X480 pixels on the the screen (therefore I get a black border around the graphics box).  When I play the game in the mode all 640X480 pixels are used by the game but I still have the black border around the whole screen.

Does anyone have any other ideas...what other types of programs would affect the resolution (NightWolve mentioned that it might be some application that I'm running).  Any help would truly be appreciated...below are the stats on my computer...

Sony VAIO PCV-V300G
Pentium 4 2.8Ghz processor
Windows XP with Service Pack 2
1024 MB of RAM
Sis 651 Video Adapter
my resolution is set at 1024X758 (but I have adjusted it to the other levels including 640X680)...the screen gets a black border all the way around when I do that)...

Thanks again...

Well...as it turns out it's not my desktop computer that is the problem...

I went ahead and installed the GAMES on my Laptop:

Pentium III 1.3 GHZ
Resolution: 1024X758
RAM: 384MB

I'm having the same problems...when the game starts up it has a black border all the way around...

I've messed with all the settings that are related to the VIDEO card but not luck...

Once again...any advice???

You say that you get a black border? that hapenned to me too you only have to adjust your monitor to fix it.

You know the Horizontal Size/Position and the Vertical Size/Position with the buttons that ore on the monitor.

As it turned out I fixed it...it had nothing to do with the monitor buttons...as my minor doesn't have those buttons (one is a laptop and the other is a LCD).

In case others have the same problem here is how I fixed it...I went into my video card settings and in there, there is an option "Full Screen (no border)" that I needed to check...all is working well...thanks to those of you that took the time to read my posts and tried to help...
